In 2001, the Lord opened the door for Ruedi and Sandy to further develop the vision He had given them several years earlier. Their focus and heart’s desire is to see this call fulfilled through Shepherd’s Refuge.

In 2003 the ministry was established as a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization. Shortly thereafter the Mettlers purchased and secured land in North Georgia to establish and host Shepherd’s Refuge full time.

In 2005 the new Lodge was built and the first guests were accommodated in the new facility.

In 2007 construction of the first cabin began, progressing as funds become available.
