Sabbath Rest, how can we even think of setting aside a time of rest? In today's fast paced culture, driven by greater achievements and higher goals, we should not forget that our bodies, minds and spirits need rest. That rest can take on various forms. Pastor Wayne Cordeiro describes in his book "Leading on Empty" that a time in a monastery's quietness and solitude refreshed and renewed his soul. That was not the only way he overcame burnout. He had "HIT THE WALL", and in the rest of the book he gives great insight into what it takes to get out of that situation. In order not to repeat this failure, Wayne also suggests to implement tools that have helped him to live a more intentional life after he returned from his journey.

How does the saying go: an ounce of prevention....? The pastors and missionaries we host here at Shepherd's Refuge do just that, make time to rest and refresh, using one of the tools Wayne Cordeiro suggests.

Just a thought: What do you do to sustain your shelf life of what you have been called to do? How do you replenish nutrients to your souls and restore your hunger for life and ministry?

For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up.  Psalm 27:10
